Learning Opportunities
Every challenge is a learning opportunity. This is a good time to teach that to your kids and maybe teach them some new things you just haven’t had the time to do in the past.
Here are some suggestions:
1) Depending on the child’s developmental age, teach them hands on skills at home they can implement that teach them responsibility, like spring cleaning, gardening, or taking care of pets.
2) Teach them organizational skills by having a daily schedule of what they need to accomplish for the day whether it’s chores or other projects. Schedule breaks and try to keep them on a routine and occupied at home. Reward them with a treat after completing a few of the items on their to-do-list.
3) Teach them to manage their emotions. Little ones often have so many emotions that they don’t understand and find it hard to communicate. Use this time to teach them to manage the stress that they may be feeling with everything new that’s going on.
4) Teach them communication skills and help them to use this opportunity to model conflict resolution. Chances are that your children have argued at some point during this week since they are spending so much time together. Use this time to teach them ways to resolve conflict and effectively communicate.
5) Teach them the importance of good hygiene. Helping them to stay clean and organized is a great way to fight against viruses and other diseases and is a great opportunity to teach them safety during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
